The DNA repair and genomic stability laboratory of Joanna Loizou, at CeMM, is looking for a highly motivated and efficient Master Student, available to start in Summer 2018. The focus of the group is to understand how DNA damage is signaled and repaired, in a disease relevant setting (http://cemm.at/research/groups/joanna-i-loizou-group/publications/).

You will integrate one of the exciting research projects in the Loizou Lab and you will design, execute and analyze your own experiments, under the close supervision of Joanna Loizou and other members of the group. The project will mostly involve molecular biology techniques, such as mammalian cell culture, Western Blot, PCR, molecular cloning, as well as flow-cytometry and Next-Generation Sequencing-based approaches. In addition, you will also have the possibility to join fruitful scientific discussions through the attendance of Lab Meetings and Journal Clubs.

The Lab:
The Loizou laboratory is a fully equipped molecular biology laboratory in a shared environment with cell culture on the same floor within a modern building. The group is embedded in a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative molecular medicine research environment that provides state-of-the-art mass-spectrometry, bioinformatics, automated biological screening platform and animal facilities, including BSL2 suites.

The Candidate:
You should have completed a BSc degree, or similar, in a relevant field. Moreover, you should be highly motivated, capable of working independently, well-organized and have basic knowledge of molecular and/or cellular biology. Previous experience in standard molecular biology techniques is advantageous.
